The Award Was Just the Proof Point
What JCE's Innovation Says About the Energy Transition — and B2B Marketing
The conversation around energy transition often generates more heat than light. Oil bad, renewable good. Legacy sector versus future sector. The reality for anyone actually working in is considerably more interesting than that.
JCE is a good place to start if you want to understand why.
BrandHouzz has been working with JCE for a couple of years: across messaging, positioning, website and content strategy, and when they won the Inspiration from Innovation Award at the Northern Star Business Awards in April 2025, it felt like more than a client milestone. With the next ceremony coming up on 17 April 2026, it feels like the right moment to reflect on what that win meant and why the work behind it matters.
What JCE Built (and Why It Matters)
JCE specialises in power solutions for hazardous environments. Their Modular Ex Renewable Power System is a self-contained, low-carbon alternative to diesel generators, designed specifically for offshore hazardous areas. Solar panels, batteries and remote communication systems, integrated into a single modular unit. It cuts CO₂ emissions by more than 90% and addresses the practical realities of operating in demanding offshore conditions, as demonstrated by their work on the South N'Dola unmanned wellhead platform offshore Angola, where the system reduced maintenance requirements from 552 man-hours per year to 114.
The award, sponsored by Port of Aberdeen and presented at P&J Live, recognised exactly what the system represents: a genuine step forward in sustainable energy infrastructure that emerged from years of engineering expertise in the oil and gas sector.
Why the Energy Transition Conversation Is More Nuanced Than It Looks
Here is something BrandHouzz has learned from working in this space: the energy transition is not a binary choice between oil and renewable. It never has been.
The companies doing the most interesting and impactful work in renewable energy right now are frequently the ones that built their expertise in traditional oil and gas. The engineering disciplines, the understanding of hazardous area classification, the operational demands of offshore environments — that knowledge doesn't become redundant. It becomes the foundation for innovation.
JCE is a clear example. The Modular Ex system didn't come from a standing start. It came from deep domain knowledge of the environments it serves, applied to a new problem. The technology is transferrable. The expertise travels.
This matters for how we approach content marketing and digital marketing strategy in complex industries. In B2B sectors like energy, engineering and industrial manufacturing, the most effective content doesn't oversimplify. It reflects the actual complexity, including the reality that the companies adopting renewable technology are often the same drilling companies, subsea contractors and industrial operators who have been building expertise for decades. These industries employ people, support communities and represent generations of research, development and genuine innovation. That context deserves to be part of the conversation.
What We've Learned Supporting JCE's Digital Presence
Some of the most effective B2B content marketing work comes from clients who understand their own value deeply but struggle to communicate it externally. JCE was one of those clients.
Working with their team, including Managing Director Alison Cox, we've developed messaging that reflects both technical precision and commercial clarity. Part of what makes content marketing for complex industries work is the ability to translate sophisticated engineering into language that resonates with decision-makers who aren't engineers themselves — without dumbing it down or stripping out the substance.
For JCE, that meant building a consistent digital presence that communicated their capabilities in hazardous area power systems, their credentials in renewable integration and their track record in solving problems that standard off-the-shelf solutions can't address. That's not a single campaign. That's a sustained content and digital marketing strategy, built over time.
What the Award Represents
The Inspiration from Innovation Award wasn't the result of a single push. It reflects a body of work: genuine engineering capability, clearly communicated, consistently demonstrated.
At BrandHouzz, we believe that's what B2B marketing in technical sectors should look like. Not surface-level messaging or trend-chasing, but the patient work of making real expertise visible to the right audiences.
For BrandHouzz, working with companies like JCE, businesses that are operating across the full spectrum of the energy landscape, delivering innovation that bridges traditional sectors and the energy transition is exactly the kind of partnership we're here for.
